Security System

Security System: Security was at the top of the list when designing the Kress Plaza condominiums and for that reason the Aiphone GH series system was installed. Anyone requesting a visit to the Kress Plaza condominiums are fully screened and allowed to enter only by suite residents. Residents can view, in full color and talk, in real time, with anyone requesting a visit. With just the touch of a button, residents can allow entry of guests. Entrance door automatically re-locks once opened.

HVAC

Each heat and air conditioning unit installed in the Kress Plaza condominium suites are "Trane" commercially designed packaged units. These units are mounted in individual curbings on the roof deck with all components contained within. All HVAC units are totally electric and provide quick response to temperature changes. Associated ducting is engineered designed with fire dampers at each outlet. Each system provides even temperatures throughout without “cold” or “hot” spots for very economical operating costs. Fully programmable thermostats allow for temperature changes at any preset day and/or time. Each suite owner is provided a complete HVAC manual, describing in full detail, the installed system.

Hardwood Flooring

The original Red Marble Maple flooring that was installed in the Kress Building back in 1910 still exist today in the Kress Plaza condominium suites. These floors are definitely a one-of-a-kind and bring back the elegance of the early 1900’s. Great care was used in refurbishing theses floors to insure a life time of beauty. Once prepared, three coats of clear polyurethane were applied.

Cabinetry

Each Kress Plaza kitchen and bath offers fully custom built wooded cabinetry by “Merillat”. Kitchen wall cabinets are a full 42 inches in height and have decorative crown moldings on top. All drawers feature roller design for ease of operation and all cabinet doors offer fully adjustable hinges. Each drawer and door is accented with solid brushed nickel hardware. Both kitchen and bath cabinets are finished with solid “polystone” counter tops. These tops resist cracking and distortion when subjected to hot liquids, they will not stain, and if ever abused can be repaired to look like new.

Communication System

Each Kress condominium suite features a state-of-the-art integrated communication system for data and telephone connections. The system is composed of conduit piping from the service provider’s terminal on the outside of the building to a central “built-in” panel box in each condominium suite. This allows for “direct run” cabling (no splicing or connections) into each condominium suite. Exclusive CAT 5 cabling is provided in each system. System design allows for the best reception available from the service providers. This system is an exclusive feature of the Kress Plaza!

Economics

One of the more impressive features of living in the Kress Plaza is the low monthly cost of electricity. In designing the Kress Plaza condominiums energy consumption was a concern not taken lightly. Extensive engineering efforts was placed on determining present “R-Values” and what if scenarios relative to heating and cooling. Values were placed on size and type of HVAC systems to be used, type and amount of insulation to be installed and the over design of the condominium suites. With all this information gathered the puzzle was put together to provide a very comfortable and economical living environment. Kress Plaza takes great pride in this achievement. Click on the residential tab, Suite “K” and view owner’s comments relative to electrical costs.

"Living in the Kress Plaza is very economical. The average monthly Duke Energy power bill in 2008 was $59. This includes Heating/Air, hot water and cooking which we do frequently."
- Jimmy and Linda Thompson, owners Suite K
